Activities 2009

Invasive plant clean-up event!
Saturday, January 31st.

Friends of Verde River Greenway are planning to go after tamarisk trees and arundo donax (giant reed) on Saturday, January 31st. These plants crowd out natives because they grow so quickly and change the soil chemistry. We will begin our project around 9 a.m. at the Rockin' River Ranch in Camp Verde. As usual, bring gloves, loppers, pruning saws and a water bottle. Snacks and water for refilling bottles will be provided.

Rockin' River Ranch is located on Salt Mine Road, which is located just south of the intersection of General Crook Trail (Hwy. 260) and Main Street. Turn right onto Salt Mine Road and proceed 7 miles until just past the Clear Creek River Access Point (RAP). A sign will direct you to turn right. Please respond if you need more information. If you would like to be part of a carpool, please respond with your general location and we'll put you in touch with others.

Rockin' River Ranch is a new and exciting acquisition for the Greenway. It is currently closed to the public. Since curiosity seekers may interrupt us from our activities, we have decided not to advertise this event in the newspapers. Friends, family, and volunteers from other groups (such as VRCA, Stewards, and State Parks) are welcome to join us.

Because this is such a special event, we are planning to celebrate with a potluck that will follow our 2-3 hour work session. Please bring a dish if you wish to join in! Utensils and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.
