"Threats to the Verde River"
by Jan Allbright VRCA President 2009
(February 2009)

There are many threats to the health of the Verde River. All of these are greatly amplified by the number and closeness of humans.   People and the river can coexist and we can use the river in a sustainable manner.
But to do so we must be aware of the actions, reactions and unintended consequences of our uses.

The Executive Board of the Verde River Citizens Alliance in conjunction with technical consultants have identified three major threats to the Verde River that are greatly amplified by human density. These threats are:

1. Storm Water Runoff
2. Diversion
3. High Density Septic Tank Usage

The presentation in the following web file or PDF file examines each of these threats and also proposes solutions that can be implemented both individually and by the communities in the Verde Valley. We invite you to download the presentation and view it.
