"Wild and Scenic"
stretch of the Verde River
The Verde River Citizens Alliance will
sponsor a public meeting this
Saturday Oct. 15 at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. The featured speaker
will
be Dexter Allen, the forest ranger charged with overseeing the "Wild
and
Scenic" stretch of the Verde River.
The experiences of a Verde River Ranger. Sound interesting? You bet!
Dexter Allen will recount his adventures at the Verde River Citizens
Alliance general meeting. His multifaceted job includes keeping all signs
of
man from the banks of the Verde in the portion designated as "Wild
and
Scenic." He must implement all portions of the river management plan,
including recreational use, wildlife management, water quality and quantity,
and citizen education.
Water is the 'glue' that holds the "Wild and Scenic" system
together.
Assuring the flow of water in the Verde is, therefore, a major initiative
of
the three National Forests that manage the area. He will discuss their
efforts toward this goal.
The VRCA invites all Verde Valley residents to hear Mr. Allen speak at
its
general meeting Saturday, October 15. The meeting will be held at the
Greenway Studio at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. The meeting starts at
10
a.m., refreshments will be available starting at 9:30 a.m.
For those attending for the first time, directions to the Greenway Studio
are available at the main gate to the park. Admission for those attending
the meeting is free. For more information about the presentation contact
