April 19, 2003 Meeting
VRCA Plants Deer Grass in Del Monte Wash
Can stream erosion be controlled by natural means? Can restoration in Del Monte
Wash help the Verde River? The VRCA met in April at the Cottonwood Waste
Water Treatment Plant to plant grass in Del Monte Wash.
The VRCA invited the public to participate in the restoration project.
Cottonwood Public Works Director, Tim Costello,
coordinated the project. A year ago VRCA helped Eagle Scout
Bill Casson by coordinating community members in planting Cottonwood trees in
the wash. This year the work group supplemented that project with additional
plantings. VRCA members found the work day to be a great opportunity to
meet and work with other people on a worthwhile riparian project!
The Cottonwood Waste Water Treatment Plant is located at the Department
of Public Works, 1490 West Mingus Avenue, Cottonwood, opposite the
Cottonwood Airport just before the Transfer Station and the Humane Society.
