General Meeting
August 24, 2002
9 a.m. to Noon
Verde River Greenway Studio
Dead Horse Ranch State Park

The Verde River Citizens Alliance will celebrate their one year anniversary at their monthly meeting on Saturday, August 24 from 9 a.m. to noon.  President Anita Rochelle says the grassroots organization has come a long way in just a year.

"Our biggest accomplishment this year was the Water Forum in Camp Verde; that really made a difference in educating people in a way that they truly appreciated. We've also completed several volunteer work projects including planting Cottonwood trees in Del Monte Wash. We've gone on hikes of the Verde River headwaters and participated in the Verde Valley Birding Festival and Verde River Days."

At the August meeting, members will discuss recruiting people interested in serving on the membership, educational, public relations, legal and networking committees. The group wants to start a water sampling stewardship volunteer program for the river, support restoration efforts, and educate the public about the threats to the river's flow. The organization's goal is to keep the river flowing.

Area residents are invited to bring their ideas to the next meeting. It will be held at the Verde River Greenway studio at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. Refreshments will be served.
