Report on Meeting held Saturday,
July 20, 2002
Dead Horse Ranch - Verde River Greenway Studio
Program
Guest speaker was Diane Joens, a Project CENTRL (Center for Rural Leadership) class member. She presented a slideshow about her internship, the Verde River Almanac. CENTRL internships, designed to be community-driven, must benefit rural Arizonans. Joens says she chose a Verde River project because "I am passionate about the Verde River. I think everyone cares about the river and doesn’t want to see it turn into cracked and parched mud, but many are reluctant to admit they don’t know much about it." Her goal is to lead community members in the gathering of understandable information that will provide an opportunity for them to learn more about the river. Joens also showed slides of the Salt River Project helicopter ride she recently took with other CENTRL colleagues. VRCA President Anita Rochelle gave an update about Mort Fleischer’s Monument Ranch development plans for 25,000 homes in the Big Chino.
